Background

Why Metrics Works

A machine shop is where most suppliers stop.
It's where we start.

Anyone can cut metal. The hard part is everything around it — getting the price right, holding the tolerance, proving the quality, clearing customs, keeping inventory on your line, and being there when a program scales or a part goes wrong. We built Metrics Works to own the whole path instead.

IATF 16949 · USMCA-Qualifying · NMSDC Certified · Saltillo Mexico

The Problem

The real cost of a cheap part.

You've done this before. You find a shop with a good number, you send the print, and the trouble starts after the quote.

"A part is easy to buy. A supply chain is hard to run. Most machine shops sell you the first and leave you the second."

The offshore price looked great until you added freight, tariffs, and twelve weeks of lead time.

The domestic shop was fast but priced you out of the program.

Quality slipped and nobody caught it until the parts hit your dock.

You're managing customs, inventory, and a supplier three time zones away — none of which is your actual job.

Volume doubled and the shop couldn't keep up. Or a machine went down and there was no backup.

Why Us — The Six Reasons

Every reason we're
the right fit.

01

01 of 06

Six reasons — Why Metrics Works

We own the floor.

We're not a platform routing your part to whichever of ten thousand shops won the bid. Saltillo is our plant — our machines, our people, our quality system. 25+ CNC machines running 400 to 2,000 parts a day, under one roof you can walk through. When you ask who's making your part, the answer is a specific building with a specific team, not an algorithm.

Six reasons — Why Metrics Works

Nearshore beats offshore and domestic.

Saltillo is the automotive heartland of Mexico, 180 miles from the Texas border. That means you get a highly skilled workforce and globally competitive cost structure, without the twelve-week lead times, stacked tariffs, and supply chain fragility of buying from overseas. Parts qualify under USMCA and ship via ground freight to US manufacturing hubs in days, not months.

Six reasons — Why Metrics Works

Quality is proven, not promised.

A supplier that can't document their quality is a supplier you can't use. Our Saltillo facility is IATF 16949 certified—the gold standard for automotive manufacturing. That requires rigorous preventative maintenance, continuous improvement, and deep documentation like Level 5 PPAPs. We bring that same automotive-grade discipline to every industry we serve.

Six reasons — Why Metrics Works

Fulfillment is built in.

Most machine shops box up your parts and call their job done. We built a distribution network so we can finish the job. With hubs in Monterrey, Columbus, and Poland, we handle the freight, clear the customs, hold the inventory, and release it to your line as you need it. We don't just make the part; we make sure it's where it needs to be.

Six reasons — Why Metrics Works

One team, one point of accountability.

No more playing referee between a shop in Asia and a 3PL in Texas. We own the machines in Mexico and the warehouse in Ohio. If there's a question about a dimension, a shipment, or a revision, you make one phone call to one team that owns the entire process. It's a simpler, more resilient way to run a supply chain.

Six reasons — Why Metrics Works

We're built to scale with you.

A shop that's great for 50 parts a month often breaks at 5,000. Because we operate our own 40,000 sq ft facility in Saltillo, we have the footprint, the equipment, and the workforce to scale alongside your program. Whether you're in early-stage validation or high-volume production, we have the capacity to support you.

The Story

Built by supply-chain people.
For supply-chain people.

Metrics Works didn't start as a machine shop looking for customers. It started inside a supply chain company — MES — that had spent years sourcing castings, forgings, and machined parts worldwide for some of the most demanding manufacturers alive: Eaton, Siemens, Schneider Electric, Honeywell, BorgWarner, ZF.

We kept hitting the same wall. Customers didn't just want a cheaper part — they wanted a supplier who'd own the whole problem: the machining, the quality, the customs, the inventory, the delivery. So we built one.

Today Metrics Works is one of three companies under Metrics Holdings — so when you work with us, you're not hiring a shop. You're plugging into a supply chain built by people who do this at a global scale every day.

Who We're For

If you're a buyer, sourcing professional, procurement lead, or supply chain manager tired of managing five vendors to get one part to your line — and you'd rather have one partner accountable for cost, quality, and delivery — we're your shop.

We're an especially strong fit if you're:

  • Re-shoring or nearshoring away from offshore tariff and lead-time risk

  • Running automotive, EV, energy, industrial, or heavy-equipment programs that need IATF-grade quality

  • Machining castings, forgings, stampings, bar stock, or extrusions to finished spec

  • Scaling from prototype to production without changing suppliers

  • Subject to supplier-diversity requirements — we're NMSDC minority-certified

FAQ

Common questions.
Straight answers.

If your question isn't here, send it to us directly — or just send your print and we'll answer everything at once.

Most machine shops sell you a part and stop there. Metrics Works owns the whole path from print to dock — we machine your part on our own floor in Saltillo, then finish, inspect, warehouse, and ship it through distribution hubs in Monterrey, Columbus, and Poland. One company, one point of accountability, with a full supply chain behind the machining.

Our Saltillo plant is IATF 16949 and ISO 9001:2015 certified, with Level 5 PPAP capability and in-house CMM and dimensional-scanner inspection. We verify every critical dimension before parts ship, and we run PPAP inspection in-house on two continents. We also own our floor — your part is made by our team on our machines, not routed to an unknown sub-supplier.

Our nearshore Saltillo location typically delivers lower unit costs than a domestic shop while keeping lead times short through ground freight. USMCA-qualifying parts also avoid the tariffs that offshore parts absorb — so you get offshore-level economics without the offshore wait or duty exposure.

Platforms route your part to one of thousands of third-party suppliers you can't see or audit, and they don't handle fulfillment. Metrics Works owns a single plant you can tour, backed by our own 3PL and warehousing network. You get a consistent floor, consistent quality, and a supply chain — not a marketplace.

Yes. Beyond machining, we provide 3PL, warehousing, inventory management, rework, repacking, and JIT delivery from hubs in Monterrey, Columbus, and Poland. Parts stay close to your line instead of sitting on a ship, and one team stays accountable through delivery.

Yes. We run first articles and development quantities through mid-volume production — 400 to 2,000 parts a day — so you don't need to change suppliers as a program grows. Behind us, the wider Metrics family adds sourcing and second-source capacity.

We machine for automotive, EV, construction and agriculture, electrical and energy, robotics, lighting, and industrial equipment — in ductile iron, steel, stainless, aluminum, copper, and brass — from die castings, forgings, stampings, bar stock, and extrusions.

Yes. Metrics Works is one of three operating companies under Metrics Holdings, established in 2013 in Columbus, Ohio, alongside MES (global sourcing) and MESH (manufacturing software). That backing means you're working with a full supply chain, not a standalone shop.

The Promise

Send us your print.
We'll tell you the truth.

Tolerance, material, volume — send us the part and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right shop for it, what it'll cost, and how fast you'll have it. If it's not a fit, we'll say so, and our sister company MES can usually source it another way. Either way, you get a real answer from someone who actually makes parts.
